049: when's it comin?

friends, it's december. i awoke to a sparkling, shimmering yard full of frost this morning and i'm already wondering when the snow will come. this could be because my yard is terrible for gardening but absolutely perfect for sledding.

wishes for white stuff:

the guy with the pipe (far right) = amazing.

048: science tuesday/snails and snakes

"Even the most pedestrian species seized his imagination. Take the Roman land snail Helix pomatia, for instance. If one is not a lover of escargot, this common European snail would inspire little attention. But not so for Darwin. He was gripped, and troubled, by the mere existence of land snails."
"Biologists have known for almost a century that a simple genetic basis is behind shell handedness, at least in some species, such that the mutation of a single gene can cause right-left reversal. The mystery then is why, if both forms can occur and reversal is genetically easy, are most species either entirely right- or left-handed?"
"Darwin’s genius was in finding great general truths among the details of humble, often obscure creatures. The lasting power of his influence stems from our ability to see the principles he, and Wallace, discovered at work wherever we look in nature."

047

moving and readjusting and missing has really taken its toll on me. attempting to get back in a groove, but in the meantime i am trying to get a handle on my google reader. holy crap, how is the internet so big. i need to stop looking at things and start doing things.

in the mean time, a few things that are inspiring me right now:

this bird house (must make one):

this ring (everything in the shop, really):this necklace:these felt pendants:

i am full of the wants.

046: hope so.

“have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart. try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language. do not now look for the answers. they cannot now be given to you because you could not live them. it is a question of experiencing everything. at present you need to live the question. perhaps you will gradually, without even noticing it, find yourself experiencing the answer, some distant day.” rainer maria rilke

044: yes there are things i'm still quite sure of.

i am excited for vacation. i know this because i am doing things like: purchasing a big floppy straw hat and making plans to wear it around all day-every day for the entire during week; making insanely long lists of things i want to read and things i want to knit for the seven glorious days that i don't have to work; impulsively buying sandals and black and white striped canvas flats (with red piping) that i think will go over well in the Catskills.

also, people, the internet is so full of THINGS:

dandelion decals are so cute.

i can't stop watching this. why?

these golden moon earrings are a good way to celebrate space.

stupid and funny at the same time. like the internet.

i love this series of pictures. HOOVERS!

eternal problem: solved.

i saw the noid in here.

also:

be well, friends!

043: fine for now

summer has been getting in the way of the internet. that's ok.

there's vacation coming up in august, plus weekends of bikes and games and new sundresses. things are good right now.

i made pizza last night (including the crust) which, while more time consuming than i liked, turned out to be delish. even with the exploding kombucha that got sprayed on it.
